The Certified Sex Offender Therapist (CSOT) Program will certify licensed therapists to work with adult and juvenile sexual offenders in a variety of settings. This extensive training and supervision will prepare these professionals to work with individuals with deviant sexual behaviors and to mitigate the risk to society.

Therapists will be proficient in the required areas pertaining to adult and juvenile sexual offenders:

  1. Sexual Deviancy
  2. Developmental Sexuality
  3. Defense Mechanisms
  4. DSM 5 Diagnosis
  5. Victimology
  6. Group Therapy
  7. Biomedical Approach to Sexual Dysfunctions
  8. Legal, Ethical, and Forensic Issues
  9. Evaluations, Risk Assessments, and Safety Planning
  10. Comorbidity, Substance Abuse, and Compulsivity Management

The safety of the community and reduced recidivism is of the utmost importance in treatment, and the CSOT certification will ensure that therapists who complete the program are competent and well-trained professionals that are able to evaluate and treat the needs and risks of each offender.

This program will also teach therapists to effectively navigate the criminal justice system as it relates to Sexual Offenders. The criminal justice system can be a confusing place for therapists. This program will educate participants in areas such as working with attorneys and probation officers, giving expert testimony, and writing recommendations for the court.

The Certified Sex Offender Therapist (CSOT) Program may also be taken as part of the International Institute of Clinical Sexology (IICS) doctoral program. IICS is comprised of three sections: Clinical sexology education, a specialty certification, and a dissertation or doctoral project.
