Sexual Offender Treatment

Objectives

This class is designed to teach students to:

  1. Define paraphilic disorders as listed in the DSM-5.

  2. Define the different types of sexual offending.

  3. Define the legal definitions related to sex offending.

  4. Recognize the differing dynamics and underlying motives stranger rape, acquaintance rape, child molestation, incest, sexual harassment, sex addiction and paraphilias.

  5. Define and implement treatment strategies for sexually addictive behavior and distinguish from sex offending committed from other motivations.

  6. Assess impact of sex offending on the family and reunification options and strategies.

  7. Compare and assess behavioral, chemical, and psychotherapeutic interventions.

  8. Identify common problems that arise in sex offender treatment.

  9. Describe the protocols for treating sex offenders.

  10. Explain the concept of protection of the public versus best interest of the client.

  11. Describe the role of State or Federal Probation in sex offender treatment.
