Objectives
This class is designed to teach students to:
Explore sexuality from historical, religious, and cultural perspectives.
Identify the primary influences on sexuality in the Western World.
Recognize sexual diversity as it exists in various subcultures within the United States.
Describe how the media and the internet influence sexual attitudes and behavior.
Recognize and identify overt and covert messages from culture, family, religion, and media.
Recognize differences in attitudes about sexuality among major religions.
Adapt sex therapy interventions according to religious beliefs and practices.
Describe the types of genital mutilation as cultural practice, the health consequences that may result, and the controversy surrounding it.
Describe how social networking impacts sexual beliefs and behavior.
Apply culturally sensitive interventions with cases outside one’s own culture.
