Treatment of Sexual Dysfunctions and Disorders
Objectives
This class is designed to teach students to:

Describe the sexual disorders in the DSM 5 and organize according Masters and Johnson’s four-phase sexual response cycle and Kaplan’s three-phase cycle.

List and describe the differing diagnoses and the underlying characteristics that will determine treatment.

Formulate different treatment interventions based on the nature of the disorder or dysfunction.

Effectively integrate and implement behavioral, cognitive, and trauma interventions according to individual cases.

Incorporate alternative interventions such as tantric sexual practice into treatment.
-
Compile list of alternative resource referrals.
-
Teach effective communication strategies to couples in treatment.

Describe how to maintain desire in a long-term relationship.

Incorporate strategies specific to one population into others.

Utilize intimacy handouts in sex therapy.
-
Utilize scales and questionnaires in therapy.
