Dr. Yulinda Renee Rahman, also known as Doc YuRoc, is a distinguished Trauma-Informed, Board-Certified Kink Conscious Sex Therapist with a Doctorate in Clinical Sexology.
Dr. Rahman has over 25+ years of experience in the Mental Health field, having held numerous roles from case management and social work to school counseling and private practice.
Her educational background includes numerous degrees, licensures, and certifications. She obtained her bachelor’s in psychology and criminal justice from Loyola in 2002. She obtained her master’s in counseling from National Louis in 2007 and her Master's in Educational Leadership from The American College of Education in 2011. She recently obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Sexology from the International Institute of Clinical Sexology in 2023.
Dr. Rahman's expertise extends to Self-Reconciliation Therapy (SRT), a unique modality she developed to address the specific needs of Black women with a history of sexual trauma. This therapeutic approach has since evolved to support anyone with body-based trauma, emphasizing the importance of cultural context and historical background. SRT integrates somatic experiencing, body mapping, and narrative therapy, and is grounded in four key pillars: Awareness, Acceptance, Attunement, and Atonement. These pillars guide individuals on a journey of self-discovery, helping them process trauma and achieve personal reconciliation.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Rahman is an accomplished author and speaker. Her book, A Power Exchange with Your Pain: A Guide Towards Reconciliation with SELF, provides a comprehensive framework for SRT, blending therapeutic techniques with historical and cultural insights. This resource serves both clinicians and individuals seeking to heal from sexual trauma. Her most recent book, Therapeutic BDSM: An Alternative Form of Healing, invites clinicians and the public at large to think outside of the box when it comes to helping modalities, techniques, and interventions.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Rahman is an accomplished writer and poet. She contributes thought-provoking and therapeutic content through her platform, "Mental Stim!" and her social media platforms. Her writing engages with topics of authenticity, academia, and healing, aiming to stimulate both the mind and the soul.
She is also committed to giving back. Through her nonprofit organization, Heal On Purpose Inc., Dr. Rahman is dedicated to providing education and conducting research on the prevalence and impact of sexual trauma on the Black community while creating resources that aid in individual and collective healing. She also runs Mind Your Mental LLC, where she supervises and trains the next generation of therapists.
In addition, she founded the "No More Silo" movement to encourage collective healing and dismantle the belief that pain must be endured in isolation. Her work in this area highlights the critical need for culturally competent care and community-based support.
Dr. Rahman has also been featured in several podcasts and interviews where she shares her insights on therapeutic BDSM, kink consciousness, trauma, and the mental health challenges faced by marginalized communities. These appearances help broaden the understanding of these practices and their healing potential.
