Sexual Abuse Treatment

Objectives

This class is designed to teach students to:

  1. Identify categories of sexual abuse.

  2. Identify sexually abusive behaviors.

  3. Assess sexual abuse including interview techniques.

  4. Be able to accurately diagnose PTSD.

  5. Assess level of trauma and identify mediators of stress.

  6. Describe first response strategies for victims of sex abuse.

  7. Describe rape from a historical and cultural perspective.

  8. Implement behavioral interventions for couples when one has been a victim of incest.

  9. Implement alternative trauma interventions and treatments, including EMDR, Rapid Reduction Technique, and Breathwork exercises as applied to sex abuse.

  10. Discuss the effectiveness of individual, group, and family therapy, as well as self-help groups.
